We have gotten a new Unearthed Arcana - something we've gotten a huge number of in the past year. Are these all intended for eventual publication? Or are they just speculative design? That's the real question.
This UA revises several subclasses that were published largely in Xanathar's Guide to Everything. I've said before that I generally prefer that the designers move on to new ideas - while it would be great to get an update for everything to work better with the 2024 update, the whole backwards-compatibility idea was to make sure that old content, including subclasses, would still work with the new classes, something that's still largely the case.
In other words, as cool as it is to get these revisions, I'd rather they put their efforts toward brand-new stuff.
That being said, the subclasses here are mostly ones that I'm eager to see new takes on.
The subclasses presented are the Path of the Spiritual Guardian (revised Ancestral Guardian) and Path of the Storm Herald Barbarian, the Cavalier Fighter, the Warrior of Intoxication Monk (revised Way of the Drunken Master), and the Oathbreaker Paladin.
In broad strokes, most of the core concepts are the same, though the Intoxication Monk does get a new brewing mechanic that's pretty fun. I'll go over each subclass in its own post.
