Details on Allied Races Revealed

Allied Races are a new feature in Battle for Azeroth.

This allows players to play various "subraces," but they are, in a sense, a kind of "hero race." Players will need to unlock these races by doing a quest chain on another character to bring them into the Alliance or Horde. After that, they'll be able to start creating characters of that race.

While they'll obviously have similar models to existing races, they will apparently have unique racial abilities. Additionally, they start at level 20.

Leveling up an Allied Race character from 20 to 110 (maybe they meant 120?) will earn them a set of "heritage" armor, which I imagine is unique in appearance for that race.

Currently, six are planned for launch, but more are planned.

So for all of your Mag'har or High Elf fans out there, hope is not lost!

Currently, the announced subraces are:

Alliance:

Lightforged Draenei
Dark Iron Dwarf
Void Elf (which appears to be a variant on the High/Blood Elf model and presumably has something to do with Alleria.)

Horde:

Nightborne Elf
Zandalari Troll
Highmountain Tauren

As these are sort of like new races, but not entirely new, it seems wise to add a bunch of them at a time. It's a good way to fit in all these long-wanted options as a cool new feature.
