World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth

The new World of Warcraft expansion will be called Battle for Azeroth.

There's a lot to unpack here.

First off, this does appear to be the "South Seas" expansion we've all been waiting for, but with a strong focus on the Alliance/Horde conflict. And that seems to reach its logical conclusion with two new continents - one for the Alliance, one for the Horde.

The Alliance is going to Kul Tiras, which appears to have a spooky vibe with witches and odd tree creatures. The Horde is heading to Zandalar, which is all ancient kingdoms (including some Nerubians, it appears) and dinosaurs.

There are several new features we'll have to wait to see at the What's Next panel which starts very soon, but here are the big ones:

Allied Races:

It went quickly, but it looks like Alliance will be getting Lightforged Draenei, Dark Iron dwarves, and what appears strongly to be a Void Elf, while Horde gets Highmountain Tauren, Zandalari Trolls, and Nightborne elves. We don't know how this will work, but I'd assume this will be the "subrace" option we've all been hearing about.

Uncharted Islands:

It looks like there will be islands to discover - perhaps mini-zones that you find by sailing?

Warfronts:

It looks like there will also be some new kind of PvP (maybe PvE as well) feature that seems to involve territory that can be captured.
